Forwardernet.com: ZIM Increases Capacity Frequency for Asia-US East Coast Service

02月13日 11:04:30

Zim Integrated Shipping Company will include large ships in expedited shipping services from Southeast Asia to the east coast of the United States next month, while also increasing the frequency of services. The increase in ship capacity comes as the service's first U.S. destination, the Port of Baltimore, is poised to increase multimodal transport capacity, which will improve the port's ability to access the U.S. Midwest market.

upgraded ZXB (operated exclusively by ZIM) weekly premium service has expanded port coverage and increased connection sites, providing the fastest shipping time from all direct loading ports to Baltimore and Boston.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said Zim's e-commerce Baltimore Express (ZXB), making its first U.S. visit in Baltimore, will increase capacity by "nearly 50 percent" as the service 6000 more TEU ships and plans to end up using 8000 TEU ships.

by the end of February, the ZXB, along with the larger vessels, will switch from a biweekly service to a weekly one. Introduced nearly a year ago, the ZXB initially had 10 ships with capacities between 3000 and 4000 TEU.

ZXB's latest schedule shows it will have 16 ships. The new flight departs Jakarta from the 4,500 TEU of Sisban Chiba on March 5 and the 5600 TEU of Glen Canyon next week.

starting from late February, ZXB's weekly port call schedule is as follows:

Jakarta-Linchabang-Gaime Port-Haiphong-Yantian-Kaohsiung-Panama Canal-Kingston-Baltimore-Norfolk-New York-Boston-Suez Canal-Jakarta

In addition to the above ports, ZXB also provides services to Yantian and Kaohsiung in China. On the east coast of the United States, the service calls ports in Norfolk, New York-New Jersey and Boston, as well as transshipment options through Kingston, Jamaica.

's newly upgraded ZXB provides customers with a wide range of additional advantages. The new ZXB service provides greater coverage, wider connectivity and more opportunities, including the provision of guaranteed containers and shipping space, Baltimore's exclusive fast track, fast connection to Midwest inland destinations, and excellent customer service.

Moore's statement said Baltimore handled nearly 100 temporary ship calls from carriers last year, thanks to demand from e-commerce businesses and the ability to access Midwest markets from ports. CSX offers a three-day service from the multimodal rail hub near the Baltimore Seagirt Marine Terminal to the railroad Bedford Park hub near Chicago, which will be able to provide multimodal capacity by increasing the height of the Howard Street Tunnel, which will eventually allow Class I rail double stacked containers.

Mediterranean Shipping Co., which also provides Southeast Asia to Baltimore services, may also be considering eventually increasing capacity because its Terminal Investment Co. (Terminal Investment Limited) subsidiary is working with a regional developer to build another container terminal in Baltimore.
