HMM reports that 99% of the ships it owns are allowed to sail under the Cll rules

According to the freight forwarding network, HMM announced that 99% of its ships meet Cll (carbon intensity index) stipulated sailing conditions.

This is the Korean Registry (KR) launched the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions true reporting system "KR GEARs" to verify the results.

CIl (carbon intensity indicator)

Cll is a ship energy efficiency measure implemented by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for ships above 5000 gross tonnage. It is calculated based on the previous year's transportation records and fuel consumption per unit of cargo volume (1 ton) and the amount of carbon dioxide emissions in the sea.

C11 is classified as A, B, C, D or E (with A being the most preferred). This level represents the performance levels of major superior, minor superior, medium, minor inferior, and poor. Ships rated D or E for three consecutive years must submit a corrective action plan showing how to achieve the required index (C or above).

IMO plans to use 2023 ship operating performance as a basis, starting in 2024 to apply for a Cll rating.

Greenhouse gas emissions true reporting system KR GEARs have greenhouse gas online data management capabilities, including real-time Cll monitors, Cll simulators and ETS calculators.

this platform, the real-time export and management of Cll level are realized. Users can also automatically create their EU MRV emission reports and IMO DCS fuel consumption reports.

The results show that among the 67 ships owned by Hyundai Merchant Shipping, 99% of the ships, except for one bulk carrier, have reached the ~ D class, which is currently allowed to operate. The E-class bulk carrier is expected to improve its Cll rating by adjusting ship speed and using low-carbon biofuels.

HMM's Cll rating is mainly due to a 11.1 per cent reduction in port stay for its container ships. Efforts to slow down steam and install more efficient propellers also help to improve energy efficiency.

In addition, Hyundai Merchant Marine will expand the use of high-quality anti-fouling coatings to reduce ship resistance, and will continue to promote alternative clean fuels.

Hyundai Merchant Marine said: "Tackling climate issues and improving environmental capabilities are the key to a sustainable future. We will work faster and better to prepare for stricter environmental regulations."
