In India's first electric vehicle (EV) deployment within a year, Maersk will expand its electric vehicle fleet to 500 cities with more than 26 vehicles, covering India's first mile, mid-English and last mile distribution.

Maersk aims to achieve net zero emissions across its entire business by 100 and provide customers with 2040 percent green solutions. To achieve this, there is an urgent need to decarbonise logistics at every stage. Not only is it important for Maersk to achieve these sustainability goals, but it is also important for customers, who need environmentally friendly solutions to decarbonize their supply chain. "

September 2022, Maersk launched its three-wheeler and four-wheeler electric vehicles in Mumbai, India, and soon launched them to its first customer in the NCR region. Since then, people began to realize that electric vehicles can support the distribution logistics in India, and with it, some customers have unprecedented demand.

Vikash Agarwal, managing director of Maersk South Asia, Agarwal Vikash, said that India is a huge market with a growing demand for distribution logistics. In the past few years, e-commerce has seen unprecedented growth in India and has great potential to maintain growth in the coming years. With the development of e-commerce, demand is also growing, especially for Sino-British and last-mile delivery. But it is not limited to any distribution method-our customers are keen to decarbonise their supply chains quickly, and we are supporting them with our fleet of electric vehicles in India. "

Maersk recently partnered with a large e-commerce platform in India to support its distribution needs through a dedicated fleet of electric vehicles with a capacity range of 550 to 700kg and a driving range of more than 120 kilometers. More than 200 + vehicles have been deployed in 15 cities, with more than 300 electric vehicles.

Jitendra Kapoor, head of mid-mile and last-mile distribution at Maersk South Asia, said: 'With the range of electric vehicles available in our fleet, we are able to offer our customers a choice depending on the goods they want to move and the radius they want to operate in. We have small to two-wheelers, fresh ready-to-eat salads for customers in the NCR area, and groceries for another customer across the country and lifestyle.

So far, Maersk's fleet of electric vehicles has traveled more than 135,000 kilometers. Maersk is also investing in creating a charging network for its fleet of electric vehicles, including harnessing solar-powered options in warehouses across the country.
