According to Freight Forwarders, Maersk ECO Delivery uses certified low-emission marine fuels as an alternative to fossil fuels to reduce the global greenhouse gas (GHG) emission footprint.

Maersk (Maersk) and Amazon have finalized a 2023-2024 agreement to transport 20,000 FFE containers using green biofuels through Maersk's "ECO Delivery" marine products. Maersk estimates that the purchase will help reduce 44,600 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent compared to standard bunker fuel, roughly equivalent to 20000 pounds of coal burned. This is the fourth consecutive year that Amazon and Maersk have arranged container shipments using low-greenhouse-gas fuel options.

Amazon Global Transportation Vice President Adam Baker said: "We are proud to partner with Maersk, a signatory to the Climate Declaration and a leader in shipping logistics, to deliver viable solutions for decarbonization of maritime transport, and we are excited to have containers on Maersk's first methanol feeder ship and continue to use their biofuels.

ECO provides emission reductions Delivery the biofuel option, which can immediately provide customers with externally verified greenhouse gas emission reductions without the need for compensation measures such as offsets. This year, Amazon will benefit from a new feature of ECO's Delivery products. In addition to biodiesel, it will also use green methanol as the second green fuel in the fleet. The ECO Delivery uses primary data on fuel consumption in this method to more accurately report emission reductions, including other greenhouse gases besides carbon dioxide. The new model also provides price certainty and stability and decoupling from fossil fuel markets. "

AP Moller Narin Phol, president of Maersk North America, said Amazon's record of ensuring sustainable transportation over the years is a testament to its contribution to building a better future, regardless of the business environment. We share the Amazon goal of reducing our total greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2040. As co-signers of the Climate Declaration, we must constantly create new opportunities to make this decade a decade of action. Decarbonisation of shipping is an important step combined with many other steps to protect our future. "

was founded by Global Optimism and Amazon, and Climate Commitment is supported by more than 38 companies in 400 countries around the world. The pledge is a commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The signatories agree to 1.) regularly measure and report greenhouse gas emissions, 2.) implement a decarbonization strategy in accordance with the Paris Agreement, and 3.) neutralize any remaining emissions through reliable offsets. Maersk defines "green fuels" as fuels with low to extremely low greenhouse gas emissions over their life cycle compared to fossil fuels. Maersk Green Fuels and its supply chain have been validated through International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC). The method of accounting for emissions is based on the GLEC (Global Logistics Emissions Commission) and certified by the Smart Cargo Centre. We ensure that the performance tracking of Maersk Eco-delivered goods is automatically generated. A Maersk Eco Delivery CO2 Equivalent Savings Certificate will be issued. The methodology was reviewed by PwC in accordance with International Assurance Practice Standard 2(ISAE 3410-Greenhouse Gas Declaration Assurance Conventions) to show the CO2 emission reductions within the scope of the Maersk Eco-Delivery Agreement.
